>>i want to start a girl gang but not the cute rookie kind i mean like a real mob-type gang where we put hits on powerful men and fix sports games and run a black market of sex toys and stolen valentino dresses
This is the final selection of images for my graduating portfolio of still lives called “Sugar High”, which was inspired by a pre-teen sleepover gone wrong, mixed with this quote by Wolfgang Tillmans : ”As soon as you represent something, it’s always a mediated, invented situation. What is genuine, though, is the desire for authenticity. So, absurdly enough, that’s something that actually is authentic about this moment. Personally speaking, I feel somewhat post-authentic.” As always I tried to explore certain aspects of femininity through these photographs, focusing this time mainly on girlhood, grooming and puberty/rites of passage.
I have to say it took me a while to get comfortable with shooting objects in the studio - obviously I had done it before many times for school but when it comes to personal work, I am used to working mostly with people & natural light, so this was a completely new approach for me… I got frustrated a first because I’m a total perfectionist when it comes to color and composition, and I couldn’t make the objects look exactly the way I wanted them to, so in the end I decided to just let them speak for themselves. I have to say I am pretty happy with the results.A selection of limited edition large photo prints of these images will be available on my etsy store over the next few days/weeks.(you can view these larger via my blogspot)
